On Technical Debt, Strategic Windows, and the Ragged Front of Technology Evolution

Technology evolution has a ragged edge. The onus is on us - the back office architects and engineers - to bind the old and the new, the static and the in-progress, into a whole cohesive enough to provide continuity to the business we serve

About Me

I’m Max Templeton.  I started my software career doing shinkwrap in Silicon Valley in the 80’s, designed and built multimedia, model-driven architecture, and dynamic website customization tools in the 90’s, had a brief romance with Big Retail in the early 00’s (aught’s :) doing predictive analytics tools and plumbing Service-Oriented-Architectures, then jumped into the more soul-enriching world of Health IT where I have labored since.

I’m currently Principal Architect at Cambia Health Solutions, a not-for-profit company dedicated to transforming heath care to make it more person-focused and economically sustainable.    Cambia is one of the world’s most ethical companies, per the Ethisphere Institute, and one of the healthiest, per Springbuk.  We were named one of Computerworld’s ‘Best Places to Work in IT’ in 2024.  I’m proud to work for Cambia – we are trying hard to do it right.

This is my personal blog on healthcare IT topics, not Cambia’s.  The opinions and positions expressed here are my own and may not reflect those of my employer.
